(ABC 6 News) - A gas meter may be a small utility attached to your home but if it's not watched over when it's cold, and it snows, it can be dangerous as gas can get into your home if the vent is covered.
"You've got to be careful. You know the customer comes first, you have to make sure that the homeowner is safe,” Matt Derby, a gas meter safety inspector in southeastern Minnesota said.
Derby says taking the time to check your gas meter can make a big difference. Derby also noted it's important to make sure you have a CO2 meter next to your laundry room and furnace as that's the first place you're going to get a gas detection.
