Drivers pulling into local gas stations for a fill-up probably feel like they’re being pummeled as prices just hit a seven-year high despite a recent drop in the state gas tax.

The average price per gallon in New Jersey was $3.39 for regular, 4 cents higher than the national average on Wednesday, according to GasBuddy.com.

Some stations reported lower prices, like a Fuel 4 station on the border of Jersey City and Union City offering some relief at $3.31 a gallon for regular. But, a Speedway and BP on Willow Street in Hoboken, usually best bets for a reasonable price, hit $3.45 and $3.41 a gallon, respectively.
