DURHAM, N.C. – There is a gas leak in the 7500 block of N.C. 751 near The Streets at Southpoint shopping center.
The N.C. Department of Transportation says the northbound and southbound lanes of N.C. 751 are closed between Interstate 40 and Calibre Park Drive.
The I-40 West onramp from N.C. 751 is closed along with Southpoint Auto Park Boulevard at N.C. 751.
The leak was reported at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and was caused by a third party performing excavation work and digging into a natural gas line, according to Dominion Energy. A business near the site was evacuated.
The estimated time for the road to reopen is 8 p.m. Thursday, according to the Durham Fire Department.
The DOT says motorists should avoid the area.
