Gas station near Detroit Metro Airport accused of price gouging - WDIV ClickOnDetroit

ROMULUS, Mich. – A gas station near Detroit Metro Airport facing allegations of price gouging.

The BP station, located near the intersection of Middlebelt and Wick roads, sits across from the airport’s car return rental area.

The gas station has reportedly been selling gas at $4.75 nearly all week. The Michigan Attorney General’s Office calls it price gouging and has sent investigators to the station to document the prices.

Higher prices at the station, or near an airport, isn’t new. People will pay more to avoid a massive gas charge from rental companies when they turn the car in. Owner Marvin Hada said price gouging is when only one gas station in the area is charging higher prices and that that isn’t the case.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said Hadar has until Jan. 8 to respond or he could face a formal investigation or civil lawsuit. Hadar said he’s been calling, but can’t reach anyone at the AG’s office to give his response to.
