BETHEL — The driver of a truck was “miraculously uninjured” after crashing into a building causing “severe structural damage” Saturday morning, according to officials.

Bethel and Stony Hill firefighters were dispatched for a report of a truck that collided into a building with a natural gas leak on Grassy Plain Street at 11:10 a.m. Initial dispatch reports indicated the incident took place at 153 Grassy Plain St.

Arriving units found a pickup truck with a landscaping trailer inside a building, causing severe structural damage and severing the natural gas meter for the unit, officials with the Stony Hill Volunteer Fire Company said.

Eversource was requested to respond as firefighters set up a “protective ground monitor, keeping a constant flow of water on the gas leak,” officials said. Once the gas was shut off, emergency management representatives and the building department responded to investigate.

“The driver was miraculously uninjured,” fire officials said.

The crash remains under investigation by Bethel police.

The Bethel and Danbury fire departments had units on scene helping, with units from the West Redding Volunteer Fire Department providing station coverage.

Crews left the scene of the crash around 3:30 p.m.
