TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Gas prices jumped higher again in New Jersey and around the nation with increasing demand following easing of restrictions imposed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of a gallon of regular gas in New Jersey on Friday was $2.16, up six cents from a week ago. Drivers were paying $2.74 a gallon at this time last year.

The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $2.17, also up six cents in the last week. The national average was $2.68 at this time a year ago.

Analysts say higher demand ahead of the holiday may send prices higher this week, but summer gas prices locally and nationally are expected to be some of the lowest since 2016.
