RURAL RETREAT, Va. (WDBJ) - One person is dead after a shooting at a gas station in Wythe County.
According to the Wythe County Sheriff’s Department, the victim’s name is 19-year-old Matt King. Officers found King deceased from an apparent gunshot wound in the parking lot of the Spirit Convenience Store on West Lee Highway just before midnight Sunday night.
The sheriff’s department says there were witnesses at the scene who said the suspect ran away. The suspect, who is a juvenile, was found close to the scene and taken into custody.
A man close to the situation told WDBJ7 the victim and another occupant were in a car when the shooting took place. The second occupant was taken to the Wythe County hospital but was not injured.
