Construction on an $8..5 million pipeline project will begin in October in Traill County, N.D.
The North Dakota Public Service Commission unanimously approved the Dakota Natural Gas pipeline project on Sept. 23.
The Dakota Natural Gas pipeline project will connect to the Viking Gas Transmission pipeline in western Minnesota and will deliver natural gas to commercial and residential customers in the Traill County cities of Hillsboro and Mayville and to rural customers along the route.
The pipeline will be made of steel except in Hillsboro and Mayville, where it will be high-density plastic.
There are 750 potential residential and commercial customers in Traill County, according to Cody Chilson, Dakota Natural Gas vice president, adding that the commercial customers include American Crystal Sugar Co., Mayville State University and Traill County.
“The partnership with Dakota Natural Gas and the cities of Mayville and Hillsboro in Traill County, along with American Crystal Sugar will mean choices for our homeowners and businesses to meet their energy needs,” said Jim Murphy, Traill County Economic Development Commission's executive director.
“We’re also excited about the future opportunities that natural gas will bring to the region,” Murphy said “Every major business that we get a request for proposal has energy requirements. Most often they need to know they have access to natural gas for the heating of their facilities.”
Dakota Natural Gas aims to complete the pipeline in HIllsboro by August and in late September 2021 in Mayville. The company eventually expects to expand to Portland, N.D., though a separate permit is required for that project, Chilson said.
In August, Dakota Natural Gas completed a $4 million pipeline project in Drayton, N.D., where customers include American Crystal Sugar Co.
