PLANO (CBSNewsTexas.com) - Plano police have called off an evacuation for people near the 1600-1700 block of Scottsdale and Coppercreek following a gas leak there.
A construction crew doing work unrelated to Atmos Energy was working near 1533 W. Parker Road and damaged a natural gas pipeline. A precautionary evacuation was issued but later lifted.
Technicians with Atmos Energy are repairing the pipeline but traffic delays in the area may persist.
A spokesperson for the natural-gas distributor cautions the most common cause of outside natural gas leaks is digging or construction that disturbs natural gas pipelines.
Anyone who nicks, scrapes, or dents a natural gas pipeline, should call 911 and then call Atmos Energy's emergency number at 866.322.8667. That way, they can come out and inspect the pipeline and make any needed repairs. Even minor damage can weaken a pipeline and lead to a future leak, according to the company.
