A gas line nicked during construction work Monday morning in Plano led to closures on a major thoroughfare in the city, according to emergency officials.
Around 11:45 a.m., Plano Fire-Rescue was notified of a gas line being cut near the intersection of Parker Road and Country Place Drive, said Daniel Daly, a spokesman for the department. The gas line is believed to have been damaged during construction work in the area, Daly said.
“It was a line that was in the middle of the roadway that was hit,” Daly said. “It was (a) pretty good-sized line.”
Authorities evacuated some residents in the area as a precaution shortly after emergency crews learned about the gas line damage, but a Plano Fire-Rescue hazmat crew later determined evacuations were not needed, Daly added.
Parker Road was closed off between Carriage Lane and Rainier Road for repairs, according to Plano police.
City engineers estimate the repair work on the road to last until 6 p.m., said Heather Bowden, a Plano police spokeswoman.
It is unclear what type of construction work was taking place in the area.
In a written statement, Atmos Energy said the construction work that damaged the gas line Monday was not related to the company’s operations.
