Residents in northwest Wichita have been asked to shelter in place after a semi truck carrying oil overturned Thursday morning, causing oil to pour out.
The accident happened around 9 a.m. on the Meridian ramp at K-96, according to a Sedgwick County Emergency Communications supervisor.
One person was critically injured.
The shelter in place advisory includes an area from 37th Street North to I-235 from south to north and Meridian to Athenian from west to east. People in those areas should have automatically gotten an alert on their phones. You can sign up to receive those alerts at sedgwickcounty.org/emergency-management/civic-ready-alerts.
Multiple ramps in the area have been closed as first responders work to contain the spill. First responders still had the area blocked off as of 1:30 p.m.
