CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Chesapeake Firefighters along with the Chesapeake Fire Departments Hazardous Materials Team and Foam Team respond to an overturned fuel tanker truck Saturday afternoon.
Crews are currently on scene at Yakin Road and Dandrige Way with a fuel tank truck, carrying 8500 gallons of gasoline, that overturned.
Officials say the area is currently closed off to all pedestrians and vehicle traffic. Police are currently on the scene rerouting traffic away from the area.
The Chesapeake Fire Departments Foam Team says they deployed a foam blanket to suppress the explosive vapors being released by the fuel tank, while the Hazardous Materials Team worked to secure the leaks and minimize the environmental impact of the leaking fuel.
Representatives from VDEM, DEQ, Hepaco, Norfolk Southern, Chesapeake Police, and Chesapeake Public Works are on the scene assisting the incident.
Officials say the driver of the truck was treated for minor injuries. No responder injuries have been reported.
According to police, the cause of the crash is under investigation.
