SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (WMTV) - The Sun Prairie Police Department urged people Thursday afternoon to avoid downtown immediately following to a gas leak.
Police spokesperson Kevin Konopacki reported that a gas break was reported around 1:45 p.m. in downtown Sun Prairie.
The department sent the alert out around 2:10 p.m. and said there would be more information to follow.
The department gave an all clear alert at 3:15 p.m., meaning all residents can return to their homes and businesses. The traffic opened back up, as well.
SPPD previously described the situation as “dangerous" and “severe" in the alert.
correction: A previous version of this article said that Madison Gas & Electric had turned off the gas, which was reported in the Sun Prairie Police Department alert. MG & E has since said they had no involvement and that it is not their service territory.
