MADISON, Wis. -- Some residents on Madison's near west side were forced to shelter in place Monday afternoon after workers accidentally drilled into a pipe, causing a gas leak.
Firefighters were called to the 2800 block of Kendall Ave., just east of Hoyt Park, at around 12:20 p.m. Monday after the leak was reported. A fire engine was used to block traffic on the road, while workers directed firefighters to the broken pipe.
