Portland police officers used so much tear gas on protesters on June 2, 2020, that local activists referred to the night as “tear gas Tuesday.” But it wasn’t known how much of the dangerous chemical officers deployed.
An answer arrived last month with a study by Forensic Architecture, a London-based research group, that used video footage and public records to estimate where and how much tear gas Portland police used to disperse people in under three hours in downtown Portland on that summer night in 2020. The Guardian first reported on the study.
